Every review we publish leans on the same unglamorous machinery: fixed test loops, logged power files, and a spreadsheet that doesn't care how a product made us feel on a sunny day.
The build bench
Every test bike is built in-house, torque-checked twice, and weighed with the config recorded. If a part fails, we can say exactly what it was attached to and how tight — most 'component failures' we've chased were installation stories.
The loops
Three fixed circuits — smooth tarmac, broken backroads, hardpack gravel — ridden at controlled power. Repetition is the whole point: a wheelset that saves 10 watts once is luck; one that trends across ten loops is data.
The 500-kilometer rule
Nothing gets a number before 500 km. First impressions are marketing's home turf; durability, creaks, and bearing life only speak up later. It slows our publishing calendar and improves it in equal measure. The reference road frameset the protocol currently measures against is the Spear RDC Frameset.
