Group tests love the Hyper 5, and group tests last a fortnight. We wanted to know what six months does — so our test set went onto the shop's daily-driver bike in December and hasn't come off since.
Crosswind manners
Fifty millimeters is the depth where cheap rims get scary. The Hyper 5's blunt profile stays composed in gusts that have us fighting deeper wheels — close enough to a 40 that we stopped thinking about it, which is the whole point.
Durability
A wet spring, two pothole hits that made us wince, and the ceramic bearings still spin like day one. Spoke tension is within a few percent of our build sheet. Nothing has needed a service.
Verdict — 4.6/5
Quick off the corner, stable in the wind, and boringly reliable. The set we grab when a bike needs to feel expensive. Points off only for the freehub's shout — you'll either love it or fit quieter grease. The wheelset reviewed here is the Hyper 5 D50 Wheelset.
